I'm from a small town myself. That might be why I like the slow-paced life there so much. Don't have to rush anywhere, no buses or trains to catch... You have plenty of time for getting from point A to point B. It's, in a way, a controlled environment. And since everyone does know one another, there's less of a chance of any warfare starting. The next time they come for shopping they wouldn't want to get old milk or eggs, now would they?
